Captive breeding of the Eastern Quoll - help support this species
Eastern Quoll Dasyurus viverrinus Image: Mt Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre
The Eastern Quoll is considered Regionally Extinct in Victoria but a captive breeding program in conjunction with the Eastern Quoll Mainland Recovery Team at the Mt Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre near Little River since 2003 has proven to be very successful. The Eastern Quoll's at Mt Rothwell are kept safe behind a predator proof fence. The area now supports a free-ranging, self-sustaining wild population of over 100 individuals.
The program is now seeking to expand the captive breeding program, upgrade existing enclosures and purchase new ones which will increase the number of quolls so that they can be released into other fenced reserves thus expanding the mainland eastern quoll population.
